White River Technologies, Inc. is a small, high-tech company focused on research & development, testing, evaluation, and commercial support services for geophysical sensor and software technologies. We are developing new technologies that utilize magnetic, electromagnetic, radar, acoustic and electro-optical sensing for defense, environmental, and energy applications. We are recognized as a national leader in explosive hazards detection and classification technology development and have a reputation for building innovative solutions to complex problems. We are seeking Mechanical Engineer to join our advanced products engineering team. The candidate will research, design, and develop next generation geophysical sensor technology focusing on rapid prototyping and fabrication of parts and subassemblies required for system integration and implementation on a variety of platforms, such as unmanned or robotic air, ground, and undersea systems. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team on R&D for the next generation of sensor-related technology in defense and infrastructure applications. Responsibilities include prototyping systems and helping to design, fabricate, and test non-metallic sensor enclosures, integrated payloads, and vehicles. Prototyping will include the development of parts and assemblies using 3D printing (e.g., FDM and SLA). Platforms implementation may include man-portable, vehicle-towed, or tele-operated systems applied to terrestrial, airborne and marine surveys in support of DOD, DOE, and DOT characterization activities. The successful applicant will have a desire to work both in the laboratory and outdoors in a team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead rapid design, prototyping, and fabrication using 3D printing for sensor platforms.
- Invent and prototype new non-metallic material designs
- Ensure quick turnaround for part design, focusing on iterative improvements.
- Perform system integration and document work in reports/manuals
- Develop robust hardware solutions and perform detailed design and analyses
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues, evaluate test failures, and design test equipment
- Collaborate with engineering team members and technical staff in-person; work is onsite fulltime; potential to travel to test site locations
- Work as a member of a team and explore ways to improve our quality, better serve our clients, and innovate new solutions.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master's or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- 1-10 years of experience with mechanical system design, sensors, and/or payloads
- Experience with SolidWorks, Fusion360, and 3D printing
- Experience with laser cutting, CNC machining, and small part design is preferred
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Positive team-oriented attitude, sense of humor, flexible and perseverant work ethic
