Position Description:
The Chief Engineer Advanced Aircraft Design supports the Counter UAS Product team that is responsible for the development and delivery of disruptive capabilities and products. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with mature technical management skills. The ability and willingness to roll up their sleeves as a technical contributor is also needed at times. The candidate must work well in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment as well as strong communication skills with customers and contractors to affect the implementation of system requirements.
Required Skills and Responsibilities:
- Experience leading small to medium size engineering teams in aerospace or defense projects.
- Experience leading testing, data analysis to support model improvements and root cause investigation of failures and implementing design improvements
- Document designs and analyses with written reports, presentations, and Engineering drawings for multiple audiences (engineering, technicians, customers, executives)
- Characterize, analyze, test, and troubleshoot system hardware and software subsystems
- Architect and develop comprehensive, reusable simulation and analysis tools for model-based control and estimation designs
- Interface effectively with users, customers, management, and other engineering personnel
- Proven team leadership skills to include mentoring and advocating for positive change
- Ability to create and follow standard processes and clearly document results
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- 15+ years of experience in product development with experience in the design of portable, embedded processor-controlled electronics, communications equipment, and radios
- Understanding of satellite navigation systems, how they work, and their vulnerabilities.
- Comfortable working with radio frequency electronics. You must be able to read and understand an RF schematic and be familiar with the critical design challenges of radios and radio jammers.
- The ability to read and understand digital electronics schematics, as well as understanding the important challenges of FPGA design. Experience designing and debugging custom electronics boards or FPGAs is an advantage
- Strong understanding of real-time software and firmware development. Firmware design experience is an advantage
- Exposure to weatherization and packaging design is an advantage
- Ability to develop creative solutions for product evaluation and testing in a cost constrained environment.
- Experience developing technical scope and basis of estimates for proposals
Education and related experience:
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science preferred
- Masters in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science preferred

- Must have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, and occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
- Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate.
Working Conditions:
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment with little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment, to an environment where inclement weather may be subject to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.
Security Clearance:
It is an essential requirement for the person in this role to be a US person and be eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and DoD Clearance.
Salary: $195,000 - $225,000.00
Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of salary or annual bonus.
