Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Manager to lead our Anode Battery Engineering team. This new role will report into the Anode and broader Electrode Engineering Design and Performance organization. As a core member of our Anode Engineering team, you will spearhead validation and risk reduction of electrode design by collaborating closely with Materials Engineering and Cell Engineering teams. Your team’s work will flow into the high volume manufacturing process at Form Factory 1, ensuring that every Anode we produce meets system requirements.
The Anode Battery Engineering team, under your leadership, will improve our understanding of the relationship between material properties and Anode performance. You will build upon the capabilities at Form to ensure that we consistently meet customer requirements for each generation of our Anode product as we improve performance and reduce cost. What you'll do:
- Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Recruit, mentor, and inspire a team of top-tier battery engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Direct investment and development priorities: Complete gap analyses of team, skills, and technology, propose solutions.
- Improve performance validation capabilities and processes of electrodes in partnership with our Anode Materials Engineering team.
- Combine insights from electrochemical data, materials characterization, and modeling to propose mechanisms and product improvement paths (durability, performance, cost).
- Drive product-level trade offs and decision making in partnership with our Cell Engineering, Systems Architecture, and Mechanical Design teams..
- Champion Technical Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in battery technology, materials science, and manufacturing processes, and identify opportunities to incorporate cutting-edge solutions into cell design and development.
- Communicate Results and Insights: Effectively communicate technical progress, challenges, and results to senior management, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams, providing clear and actionable insights to drive informed decision-making.
What you'll bring:
- 6+ years of experience in Battery Engineering in a product development and/or manufacturing environment with 3+ years of experience managing scientists/engineers
- Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency with electrochemical testing techniques (CV, EIS, cell cycling, etc.) and experience creating custom techniques and methods
- Proficiency in commissioning and interpreting materials characterization techniques relevant to understanding electrochemical device behavior (microscopy, phase and compositional analysis, surface analysis, etc.)
- Experience working with electrochemical cell manufacturing, quality, and reliability.
