Job Summary:
The Chief Engineer, Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems Solutions and Sustainment, serves as the primary technical authority for C-UAS and air defense programs, leading the design, development, integration, and sustainment of complex system installations. This role requires deep technical expertise combined with strategic leadership to drive innovation, ensure engineering excellence, and support program execution across the entire lifecycle. The Chief Engineer works closely with program management, operations, and sustainment teams to ensure mission success while maintaining compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. Additionally, this position plays a critical role in mentoring engineering teams, fostering continuous improvement, and collaborating with customers, government agencies, and industry partners.
Required Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership across aerospace and defense programs, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Lead the development, integration, and sustainment of complex systems, including design, analysis, testing, and validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program management, operations, and sustainment, to ensure successful program execution and lifecycle management.
- Serve as the primary technical advisor to senior leadership, customers, and stakeholders, providing expertise in systems engineering, risk management, and mission assurance.
- Oversee system performance, reliability, maintainability, and safety assessments to optimize operational effectiveness.
- Stay informed on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to C-UAS Short Range Air Defense Systems.
- Support business development efforts by providing technical input on proposals, requirements analysis, and solution development.
- Mentor and develop engineering teams, fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proven expertise in systems engineering, program planning and execution, and program lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of defense acquisition processes, requirements development, and risk management.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams in design, development, and sustainment of complex aerospace systems.
- Proficiency in engineering tools, modeling and simulation, and system integration techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and guide teams effectively.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Strong financial and business acumen to support cost estimation, budgeting, and proposal development.
- Experience with DoD, DoE, or other government aerospace & defense programs and regulatory compliance (e.g., FAR, DFARS, ITAR).
- Knowledge of emerging aerospace technologies, including digital engineering, AI/ML applications, and autonomous systems.
- Background in manufacturing, production, or supply chain management for aerospace systems.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
Education and related experience:
- Experience in program management, operations, and sustainment of aerospace systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field and 15+ years’ experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Business Administration and 12+ years’ experience (preferred).
- Relevant experience in aerospace and defense engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. (preferred)
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one as required by the position (preferred)
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 10% travel may be required for site visits, customer meetings, testing, and technical reviews.
Physical Demands:

- Ability to work in a standard office environment, using computers and other office equipment.
- Capability to travel to field sites, including manufacturing facilities, test sites, or operational environments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally for handling technical equipment or documentation.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily performed in an office setting, with occasional visits to laboratories, manufacturing plants, and test facilities.
- Exposure to test environments for outdoor system demonstrations in hot/cold conditions and test operations at customer test ranges or installations.
- May require working extended hours to meet program deadlines and operational commitments.
Other Requirements:
It is an essential requirement for the person in this role to have a legal right to work in the United States and be eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and DoD Clearance.
Salary:
Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of salary or annual bonus.

Pay Range: $160,000 - $200,000 per year
