At AML, we manufacture oceanographic instrumentation and marine deck equipment (high tech winches). The successful applicant for this role will be joining AML’s multidisciplinary engineering team, tasked with optimizing processes / SKUs for cost savings and gross margin improvement.
This position is based in Victoria, BC. While some of the role may be done remotely, the position requires attendance in the office at least 3 days per week.
Accountabilities
- Cash-first mindset: Prioritizes based on impact to cash, then profit, then everything else.
- Capacity and COGs Improvement: Identifies, evaluate, recommends, and implements change that improves capacity and/or COGs. Proactively implements 'better'. Owner of electrical jigs.
- Equips Builders to Build: Owner of internal technical documents (new or existing product), prioritizing self-sufficiency, including SOPs, assembly instructions, internal Operations training materials, Service Bulletins.
- Quality: Action NC Cases and OFIs: Maintains Instrumentation business unit NC backlog under 20 and socializes root cause regularly using PDCA, 8D, A3 Sheet, DMAIC or Similar. Requests additional support early.
- Unsticks Operations: Level 2 operations support. 95% of Ins. Production issues are normalized within 24 hrs.
- QA/QC: Owns inbound and outbound Quality Assurance process.
- Evangelizes process. Educates Operations staff. Enforces and maintains process.
- Inspection and DMR: owner of Scrap/Writeoff process and valuation. Knows the current valuation and ensures accuracy of records at all times.
- BOMs and Item management: Owns accuracy of the BOMs and Methods. Defines the BOM update processes; educates, resolves issues.
- Engages with the Methodology: Demonstrates learning and application of AMLs 7 Systems.
- Raises the Bar: Active participant in the pursuit of higher performance standards within the company.
Requirements
- Level 2 Leader: Contributes individual capabilities to the achievement of group objectives and works effectively with others.
- Advanced-level hardware knowledge. High understanding of hardware design, PCB troubleshooting skills, electrical investigative tools, and best practices. Electrical guru. Adept at Altium.
- Sensor calibration theory. Advance knowledge in operation and calibration of AML's entire sensor suite, including calibration equipment and other tools. Understands the operating theory. Resident expert for AML's calibration laboratory.
- Manufacturing knowledge: Ability to evaluate, recommend, DFM from suppliers and implement manufacturing processes. Familiar with LEAN manufacturing concepts. Working knowledge of manufacturing best practices.
- Technical Educator. Can process and present technical concepts suitable for digestion by various audiences. Trains Operation staff for maximum self-sufficiency.
- Project Management: can manage multi-disciplinary Custom Engineering projects from conception to delivery. Achieves the delivery date, on spec and budget.
- Advanced user of Altium or schematic softwares. Delivers schematic designs quickly, thoroughly, and in a way that can be maintained.
- Intermediate Multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge. Can comfortably discuss issues of firmware, hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical. Knowledge sufficient to form an opinion; challenge assumptions.
- High understanding of ERP and MRP systems. Advanced user of ERP for BOMs, Methods, Items, Suppliers, Cases, BAQs, etc. Can use ERP to provide insights.
- Advanced Schematic designer. Produces pragmatic designs; minimal revisions. Minimizes technical risk. Balances cost, availability, spec, and other suitability requirements. Provides reviews for other designs.
- Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of C programming for microcontrollers, with practical experience or strong desire to work with STM microcontrollers.
- Intermediate proficiency in low-level C programming, including the ability to write, debug, and optimize code for hardware-specific applications
